Finest R&B from Luxembourg

The band’s repertoire covers some of today’s finest blues songs, from wellknown alltime classics to rare (and unfortunately hardly known) pearls, completed by own writings and interpretations.

The music

The Winklepickers are influenced by the raw, straight and powerful Rhythm ‘n’ Blues from the 70′ and 80′ in the tradition of bands such as Dr. Feelgood and Nine Below Zero on the one hand, and by the more “Texan style” bands such as The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Kim Wilson and Lee McBee on the other hand. This fusion is completed by own interpretations of “back to the roots” blues standards, as well as by own compositions.

The band

The band was formed in January 2001 and gave its first gig on the 20th of April. The current lineup consists of Roger Melcher (Harp/Vocals), Roland Meyer (Guitars), Paul Lebrun (Bass/Vocals) and Paul Neuen (Drums).  Some of the band’s most important performances: Bluesclub Luxembourg (support for Lee McBee & The Passions, Howard and the White Boys, Monster Mike Welsch, James Harman, Kid Ramos, Byther Smith, Bryan Lee), Blues and Jazz Rallye (Luxembourg), Blues op der Buerg (Useldange), Summer on the Rocks (Larochette), Dikkrich – Live (Diekirch), Jazz Clervaux (Clervaux), Blues an Jazz um Haff (Merscheid), Association Chorus Douzy (France), Ferme Madelone (Gouvy), A Benelux Rootsnight for Asia (Antwerp)…
